VACANCY: Archive / Heritage Consultant

30-Nov-2021

Earlier this year the Irish Association was awarded a grant from The Northern Ireland Office’s Shared History Fund administered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund for a programme of events called All To Play For – A Century of All-Island Relations.

In addition to a series of debates and reflections, the Irish Association has identified some physical heritage assets which, as one of the outcomes of this project, will eventually be deposited at PRONI. The democratic nature of the Irish Association with revolving terms of office means that important correspondence, conference papers and speeches going back over several decades exist in hard copy in multiple locations.

Thus, one important dimension of this project will be to identity where these documents exist and invite those holding them – former members, family members of previous Presidents, etc – to consider depositing them in the PRONI. Another will be advising on the historical importance of the individual assets.

Applications are now invited for professional archival/heritage consultancy advice in order to prepare physical assets gathered as part of this project for deposition in PRONI. This is a first step in ensuring a growth in the awareness of the archives of the Irish Association as one way to explore the wider history of inclusive dialogue and understanding.

The successful candidate will identity where these documents exist, invite those holding them – former members, family members of previous Presidents etc – to consider depositing them in the PRONI and have the material prepared for archiving.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrable recent experience in this area of archive consultancy.
  • An understanding the nature of the Irish Association’s work and the aims and objectives of Shared History Fund.
  • An understanding of archival collections and professional standards.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence held for at least one year and having access to a car insured for business purposes.
  • A flexible approach to work that may include evenings and weekends.

Fee: Hourly Rate £25.00. It is anticipated this work, spread over several months, will entail no more than thirty hours.

Timescale: We aim to make an appointment in early January 2022 so that the deposition of archives can take place to PRONI by the end of February 2022.

Please send a CV and cover letter demonstrating recent experience and how you feel you meet the essential criteria to admin@irish-association.org by Noon on Friday 17th December 2021.
